Local content is key to achieving the national affordable homes goal
This refers to services, labor, materials, and capital sourced locally for project development as opposed to relying on foreign sources. The disparity between foreign and local input remains big, especially for large-scale housing projects that are capable of delivering at least 200,000 units annually.
Through the use of new building technologies that reduce construction expenses without compromising on quality.
While the government has taken many steps to promote local content, such as through the Buy-Kenya Build-Kenya initiative, there is still a lot of work to do in creating an enabling environment for local housing developers to thrive, for instance, partnering with the government and financial institutions to roll out large-scale projects.

Our Jua Kali (informal) sector has proven to be a reliable source of metalwork and timber products for housing. We need to accelerate more startups to provide affordable housing solutions.
